Visual Relief

The sound of water in the lobby was used to soothe patients undergoing cancer treatment. During our site visit, the water was no longer running, though the remaining stones still serve as a visual relief and symbolic purposes.

Much of the features that contribute to visual relief were suggested by committees at UCSF.
"We primarily get caregivers and our staff to attend key meetings, have workshops where different groups and stakeholders are represented, and encourage them to take roles in initial planning," says Deepak Dandekar (Manager of Architecture UCSF).
