WaitingRoom Breast Care Center Waiting Room:
The second floor is the breast care center carefully designed for patient comfort, with input from the cancer center staff. The waiting time is quite lengthy for some patients (sometimes a couple of hours or more).

Waiting in your own living room

"A meditation room was designed to exhibit artwork, as well as display quilt making in the breast cancer waiting area. The second floor waiting area looks over the atrium, again connecting a patient to the outside world. Colorful walls, furnishings, and floors are all meant to bring in a more domestic appearance."
[Byron Bronston, Facilities Design and Management, March 2002]

The architects were asked to consider incorporating the following in the design of the waiting area:

  • Interest points
  • Comfortable furniture
  • Warm and Clean Finishes, Wood
  • Soft lighting

Amenities:

  • Business/ Childcare areas
  • Entertainment Equipment (TV, stereo, etc.)
  • Distractions like an aquarium, the fountain in the lobby, art and kinetic sculptures
