Minor Adjustments

Over the long run of the project life, demands and requirements have changed due to different players joining Berkeley High School at different times and the changes in educational needs.  After the breaking of ground, Superintendent Jack McLaughlin, who had brought many ideas for the planning of Berkeley High School, had left Berkeley Unified School District and was replaced by another superintendent.  Also, the Principal of Berkeley High School had been replaced four times during the life of the project.  However, none of them proposed any significant or dramatic changes to the design, and the original plan for the additions remained with minor adjustments.

Another concern, not only for the additions but for the overall goal of improving educational environment, was about having smaller, specialized classrooms.  Although this issue was considered, it did not play a large role in the designing process due to other circumstances including the possibility of renovating the Old Gym to smaller classrooms.
