A Return to Planning

The first of the Proposition A bond money to be spent at BHS was in 1993, with the renovation of Building G and H including seismic upgrades. When the science and shop building renovation almost complete, the Berkeley Unified School district again focused on developing a master plan to help focus their budget and project selection/timing.  VBN Architects, already on board for the renovation projects, was asked to produce a master plan for the campus.  Completed and submitted, it generated much controversy and was never officially adopted. The plan took a comprehensive look at a current space inventory and future projections of academic programs and space needs.  It reflected a change in space requirements for high schools between the 30's and the 90's.
